/ba.ca/ with New Naratif: Feminism as a Tool for Democracy in Southeast Asia Event Recap
In today’s Community Corner, let’s revisit /ba·ca/ with New Naratif’s Feminism as a Tool for Democracy in Southeast Asia, featuring Democratic Participation Researcher, Thet Wai, and Filipino environmental journalist, Mavic Conde.
Welcome to Community Corner, a space for our members to catch up on events that they have missed, read team recommendations, and write to us!
On 12 April, 2023, our community joined us for a discussion, led by Thet Wai, on how feminism can help forward our democratic rights in Southeast Asia. Feminism – i.e. the equality of all genders and sexualities – is an integral part in the fight for democracy. By learning about feminist interventions in Southeast Asia, we can better understand how we can strengthen grassroots democratic movements and turn our imagination for a better Southeast Asia into reality.
“Southeast Asia is currently at a critical phase of the decolonial project: re-imagining its own historical roots, such as rekindling indigeneity and re-discovering the forgotten history of its women and of Southeast Asia and their struggles.”
