The supposed principle behind “pragmatism” in politics is to approach issues and problems based on conditions on-the-ground rather than apply particular theories, concepts, and/or values. This may overlook the fact that people understand the world by using simplifying assumptions, which are based on theories, assumptions, and values, even if informally.
