Democracy Classroom: Singapore’s Cost of Living Crisis

12 July @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Free

New Naratif’s Democracy Classrooms are a safe space where our community can come together, articulate our thoughts, and practice democracy.

As Singapore emerges from the COVID-19 pandemic, another crisis looms. The cost-of-living crisis has already affected the prices of staple goods and the skyrocketing housing prices Singaporeans face have made Singapore the most expensive city to live in, tying with New York and beating out global cities like London and Tel Aviv.

In The Citizens’ Agenda 2022 by New Naratif, Singaporeans told us that cost of living & wages was one of their greatest concerns. In this Democracy Classroom, New Naratif is returning to Singapore to discuss and hear from ordinary Singaporeans about the cost of living crisis and what should be done about it. As Singapore prepares to go to the polls this year for another presidential election, we’d like to know how the cost of living crisis has affected you.

New Naratif is coming back to Singapore’s shores this Wednesday, 12 July, at Orange & Teal, Rochester Mall, from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. for our Democracy Classroom: Singapore’s Cost of Living Crisis!

Meet our Speaker!

PJ Thum is a historian and both founder and Managing Director of New Naratif. A Rhodes Scholar, Commonwealth Scholar, Olympic athlete, and the only Singaporean to swim the English Channel, his work centres on Southeast Asian governance and politics.

If you’d like to know more about The Citizens’ Agenda Singapore, don’t forget to check out our explainer and learn about what Singaporeans said about their top 5 most important issues!

Entry is free to all members and non-members alike! No membership required! Just come down and hang out with us! See you there.
