Virtual screening of To Singapore, With Love for documentary night and a Q&A with director Tan Pin Pin and Freedom Film Network.

For this month’s documentary night, we’ll be screening To Singapore, With Love, a documentary about Singaporean political exiles as they discuss the city of their dreams. To Singapore, With Love is an award-winning documentary that was banned in Singapore. 

Join us on Friday, 18 June at 8 p.m. GMT+8 for the screening. We’ll have a Q&A with director Tan Pin Pin and the directors of the Freedom Film Network to discuss the documentary and navigating censorship in Singapore and Malaysia. For this screening, there is a minimum donation of US$5, which includes a month of New Naratif membership.

Catch the live virtual concert with Subhas Nair on Friday, 25 June at 8 p.m. GMT+8.

To close off A People’s Hangout, we have a special unplugged session with Subhas Nair! Catch the live virtual concert on Friday, 25 June at 8 p.m. GMT+8. Subhas Nair will perform his latest album, Tabula Rasa/Tak Boleh Rasa. For this virtual concert, there is a minimum donation of US$10, for which you’ll receive a two-month New Naratif membership.

Yi Peng Yap

Yap Yi Peng is a freelance writer, researcher, and trend forecaster, specializing in digital media and marketing. She is New Naratif’s Social Media Manager. During her time at the Fashion Institute of Technology, she worked closely with the institute’s Writing Studio as a peer tutor to produce a guide on inclusive language that covered alternatives and methods to combat oppressive and harmful language. She is also working towards creating an interactive workshop on the aforementioned topic to educate the importance of communication by recalibrating our subconscious assumptions.
