Investing in our Present

In the immediate term, we need to take care of those who matter most: our team and our content creators. The first US$75,000 raised will go towards salaries for our core team and payments for our content creators.

Freelancer Emergency Fund

New Naratif is entirely staffed by freelancers, and we are intimately familiar with the precarious nature of freelancers’ existence. Freelancers often do not have medical insurance, and also are vulnerable to legal difficulties that arise from the articles they write. Consequently, we are building up a small US$5,000 fund for our contracted freelancers who run into such financial issues while working for New Naratif. The fund will only be used for emergency healthcare for serious issues, or legal expenses related to the content they produce for New Naratif. This fund will only be used for freelancers currently contracted with New Naratif. Each expenditure will, in the first instance, be capped at US$500. There will be transparency and accountability to donors, who will receive an annual report on the current size of the fund and expenditures in the previous year; and donors may request further details at any time (to the extent that it does not compromise the privacy of recipients).

Investing in Our Future

In the long-run, New Naratif needs to be sustainable. We want to invest in product development, which will take about five months and cost a minimum of an additional US$40,000. We believe this process will allow us to find a sustainable business model, through a relentless focus on audience research and improvement.

This process includes building a prototype and developing internal audience research processes: developing KPIs for all content, tracking audience engagement across all channels, conducting user research, building a process to test engagement, and integrating it into the product.

With your help, this investment in our future will put us in a far better financial position and on the road to sustainability. Please write to pingtjin.thum@newnaratif.com for more information and if you wish to support this particular objective.
